New York Sharks News Release

The New York Sharks of the Independent Women's Football League will host the Chicago Force in the first round of the IWFL Eastern Conference Playoffs. The Sharks earned a berth in the playoffs by going 8-0 and winning the IWFL Mid Atlantic Division. Their division rival Chicago Force got into the playoffs by being the wildcard team with a 6-2 record.

The game will be held on Saturday, June 26th at August Martin High School in Jamaica, Queens. Kickoff is at 5pm (EDT). General admission tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and seniors. The game will also be broadcast on the radio by KEDU-FM 102.3 in Ruidoso, New Mexico and over the Internet at www.kedu.us.

The game features two of the most feared defenses in women's football, the two teams having shutout their opponents a combined 10 times this season out of 16 games. The Sharks are led by quarterback Val Halesworth who threw for over 1,000 yards for the third consecutive season. She is the only women football player to ever perform this feat.

This will be the third time that Chicago and New York has faced each other. The Sharks have won both previous encounters by very close margins.

The winner of this game will go on to the IWFL Eastern Conference Championship game to be played on July 12th.
