New York Lizards News Release

The New York Lizards are proud to announce the 2015 Founder's Cup Award winners. The award recognizes six teams- three boys' teams and three girls' teams- that have displayed excellence throughout the most recent lacrosse season based on head-to-head competition, sportsmanship, and Laxpower rankings.

Representing Nassau County is boys' winner Cold Spring Harbor and girls' winner Wantagh. Cold Spring Harbor won an elusive New York State Championship in Class 'C' by beating Cazenovia 9-8, and Wantagh lost in a close game to eventual state champion Eastport South Manor in the Long Island Championship, 10-11.

The Suffolk County winners for boys is Smithtown East, who made their second straight Long Island Championship game as they fell to Syosset 8-14. As for the girls, it is West Islip taking the Cup as they captured the Class 'A' Championship by beating Suffern 10-9. The two New York City representatives are the Fieldston boys' team and Hackley girls' team. Fieldston had a 15-2 campaign, with their only two losses coming to Rye Country Day. Hackley had a great 14-3 season, including an impressive seven-game win streak during the middle stretch of their season.

The Lizards would also like to recognize the 2015 Long Island Metropolitan Lacrosse Foundation Scholarship recipients. The Scholarship is given to one male and one female player from Nassau County, Suffolk County, and New York City. Representing Nassau County is Garden City's James Sullivan, who signed a letter of intent to play at Harvard next season, and Lynbrook's Ciara Anne Gordon, who is committed to play at Binghamton next year. Suffolk County's representatives are Eastport South Manor's Daniel Dowsett, who will be playing at Sacred Heart next year, and Huntington's Samantha Lynch who is a Notre Dame commit. The recipients from New York City are Christopher Columbus High School's Lukas Ribiero, and Channel View School for Research's Tatyana Ali. Ribiero will be attending the College of Staten Island in the fall, and Ali is deciding between Delaware State and Buffalo State.

"I am thrilled to have this partnership with the Lizards and to recognize the best teams and athletes in the Long Island/Metro area," said Long Island/Metropolitan Lacrosse Foundation President, Russell Ketcham. "These are the hardest working athletes I've ever had the pleasure to know and they deserve every bit of recognition they are receiving."
