Shootout for Soldiers Expands to 5 Locations in 2015

June 16, 2015 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) News Release

BOSTON, MA (June, 15th, 2015) - Shootout for Soldiers, an organization that hosts 24-hour lacrosse events that benefit wounded American military members, will see a large expansion this summer and extend their reach across the nation for their cause. The mission statement for the Shootout for Soldiers organization is to use the platform of lacrosse to engage communities with their local veterans and support their healthy and successful transition into civilian life.

Since its inception in 2012, Shootout for Soldiers has raised more than $500,000 for wounded U.S. service members, and looks to further its efforts this year. Last year, the Shootout for Soldiers events in Baltimore and Long Island drew in more than 21,000 attendees. This year Shootout for Soldiers will host five separate events in five cities across the United States: Baltimore, Long Island, Boston, Columbus and Dana Point, CA.

The Founder and Director of Shootout for Soldiers, Tyler Steinhardt, has mentioned that even though there was interest from over 125 locations for this summer's events, Boston, Ohio and California stood out for their dedication to the sport and our nation's veterans. There are four Major League Lacrosse teams that are working together with Shootout for Soldiers to support the cause near these events: the Chesapeake Bayhawks, Boston Cannons, Ohio Machine and New York Lizards.

In congruence with expanding to new locations, Shootout for Soldiers has also redesigned the event experience; many of the events will include live entertainment, barbeques, and live auctions. The proceeds of the events will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, Army Ranger Lead the Way Fund, Gary Sinise Foundation and Semper Fi Fund. The common mission of all four organizations is to provide financial, physical and emotional support and services to individuals that have dedicated their lives to the United States military.
