New York Liberty News Release

NEW YORK - The New York Liberty will host its first-ever Battle of the Boroughs and Sneakerhead Night on Saturday, July 23 when the team takes on the reigning WNBA Champion Chicago Sky at 7 p.m. ET at Barclays Center.

The team is also partnering with Soles4Souls, a nonprofit dedicated to turning unwanted clothing and shoes into opportunity, on a sneaker drive. Fans can bring new or gently used sneakers to Barclays Center on Saturday and donate at a Soles4Souls donation box on the concourse. All donors will receive two complimentary tickets to the Sunday, July 31 game against the Phoenix Mercury.

"Partnering with Soles4Souls on our first-ever sneaker drive will allow us to have impact that reaches far beyond New York," said Liberty CEO Keia Clarke. "We encourage fans to take advantage of this initiative and make a difference while also supporting a cause that Brittney Griner cares about very deeply."

"We love finding creative ways to work with partners, and what goes better together than shoes and basketball," said Buddy Teaster, President and CEO of Soles4Souls. "Big thanks to the New York Liberty organization for working with us. These donated shoes mean that people in developing countries have an opportunity to lift themselves out of poverty, and we're really grateful for their partnership."

WNBA teams are collectively committing to serve the community in ways that BG would if she were here. In Phoenix, the Mercury launched the fifth season of BG's Heart and Sole Shoe Drive, an initiative she founded in 2016 to help unhoused persons in the Arizona summer without shoes.
