
New York Liberty Host Fan Appreciation Night

NEW YORK, NY - September 9, 2013 - The New York Liberty will play its final regular season home game at Prudential Center on Tuesday, September 10 against the Phoenix Mercury at 7:00 p.m. Fan Appreciation Night presented by Chase will feature a free tote bag giveaway to the first 5,000 fans in attendance. Liberty legend Kym Hampton will keep with tradition and perform the national anthem before the game.
The Liberty will also honor WNBA legend Katie Smith, who is completing her final season in the league, with a special pregame ceremony. To commemorate the event, Nike will present the first 4,000 fans in attendance with a specially designed t-shirt. Smith, a two-time WNBA Champion and seven-time All-Star, became the second-leading scorer in the WNBA earlier this season. In 2011, she was named one of the Top-15 players in WNBA history.
In addition, the Liberty will recognize long-time team physician Dr. Jo A. Hannafin during the game. Dr. Hannafin is a Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgeon and Director of Orthopedic Research at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Liberty forward Essence Carson will present Dr. Hannafin with a specialized team jersey, honoring her accomplishments and courage as an inspiring woman. Among her many accolades, Dr. Hannafin was recently named the first female president of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine.

2013 marks the final season for the Liberty at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. The Liberty will return to Madison Square Garden for the 2014 campaign, following the completion of Phase III of the three-year, top-to-bottom Transformation this fall.
