RiverCity Rage News Release
St. Charles, MO - The RiverCity Rage fell at home to the Sioux Falls Storm, 41-32, Saturday night at the Family Arena in St. Charles. The 3,869 fans saw quite a show, however, from two new Rage backfield mates. Quarterback Steve Rush and running back David Daniels wowed the crowd from start to finish as the Rage came up short against the three-time United Indoor Football League champs.
Rush ran for a Rage season-high 96 yards and two touchdowns while throwing for two more scores. The Missouri State alum tossed touchdown passes to Moses Regular in the first quarter and then found Hurtis Chinn for another in the third. "Rush did exactly what we asked him to do," said Rage head coach Ken Stills. "He gave us a chance to win the game. He didn't complete that many passes but he didn't give the ball away. I'm proud of him."
Daniels ran for 71 yards for an outstanding 7.1 yards per carry average. He also caught to two Rush passes. The newcomer from Panhandle State backed up his words to Coach Stills. "He sent us a tape and said he would remind us of Barry Sanders," said Stills. "He showed us that tonight. He's small but tough and not afraid to be physical. He ran the ball hard tonight and gave out as many hits as he got."
The Rage led 16-14 after the first quarter as Rush added an 8-yard touchdown run to his earlier pass to Regular. However, in the second quarter, the Storm's James Terry ran for two touchdowns, giving Sioux Falls a 28-16 lead. Rush added another touchdown run to trim the lead to 28-22. Sioux Falls kicker, Adam Hicks then nailed a 44-yard field goal at the halftime horn to give the Storm a 31-22 lead.
The third quarter saw back and forth scoring throughout. Hicks was good from 19-yards for a 34-22 Storm lead. The Rage clawed back on Rush's 3-yard hookup with Chinn, cutting the lead to five. However, a Terrance Bryant touchdown pass extended the lead back up to 12 points. The final scoring of the game came on a 31-yard kick from RiverCity's Will Rodriquez to get the Rage to within nine at 41-32. That would all for the scoring, though, as both teams' defenses pitched fourth quarter shutouts.
The Rage will return to action next week as they head to Bloomington to face their division rival Extreme. This will be the first road game for RiverCity since April 5th. The next home game for the Rage is Saturday, May 31st as they host the Extreme after playing four straight on the road. For ticket information call (636) 896.4285.
