Kankakee, IL-The Windy City Soldiers' new home venue, the Kankakee Community Resource Center, will get a much needed facelift before the Soldiers' kick off their 2008 season. Roy Collins, president of the Kankakee County Painters Union, is leading an effort to paint the Resource Center in early February.
Collins has already organized volunteers for the project, and secured a $4,000 paint donation from Valspar Paint. Collins is also working to get brushes and other materials donated.
"It's going to be a lot of work," said Collins, "but I think having this team here is going to be great for the community-the kids in particular. We wanted to make sure we could help."
The painting project is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, February 2, and Sunday, February 3. Collins estimates the total value of the project at $25,000.
Windy City Soldiers' Spokesman Barry Bradford-"It has always been our intention to have this team be a source of pride for the community. To have people like Roy buy into that and get involved is not only helpful, it's inspiring."
