Kankakee County Soldiers News Release
The Kankakee County Soldiers (Illinois) were extremely strong last summer, beating the Edmonton Energy, Albany Legends and sweeping the last 3 games against the Battle Creek Knights as the summer season came to an end- so it was no surprise- that in November of 2010- Kankakee was one of the favorites to win the IBL's 1st Winter season; and Kankakee did win the first IBL Winter championship on a 40-foot buzzer beater by Ryan Edwards on January 15th, 2011 (over the Gary Splash). Kankakee County Soldiers actually play in 2 seasons per year (IBL Winter season and the traditional IBL Spring/Summer season).
Kankakee tipped-off their Spring/Summer IBL season last Friday at the Albany Legends ( New York ); Albany was the IBL 2010 Spring/Summer champions; Kankakee won the middle of three games and although they are starting 1-2, this was a strong road showing for the Soldiers (losing the first game by only 3 points). The Spring/Summer IBL season is well known for its extremely strong play and extremely strong rosters mostly due to the timing of the season (late April through early July which appeals to the highest level players) but that being said, Kankakee head coach Barry Bradford believes that his team is every bit the equal to any team in the IBL.
