KOKOMO, IND. - Field manager Matt Howard and the Kokomo Jackrabbits saw an immediate impact from some new names on the 2016 roster Monday, May 30.

The trio of third baseman Ryan Hutchinson of Illinois State, center fielder Lance Mays of East Tennessee State and catcher Caleb Stayton of Ball State all played integral roles in aiding a Gold and Brown offense that ripped the visiting Chillicothe Paints' pitching staff to the tune of 10 hits and 10 runs for a 10-2 Prospect League Memorial Day evening win in front of nearly 1300 fans at Kokomo Municipal Stadium. Mays got a seven-run second inning blitzkrieg off to a strong start with a three-run home run to left, while Stayton just missed joining him in round tripper land, hitting the right field wall on the fly for a double as part of a two-hit night, while Mays finished with three RBI and three runs scored. Hutchinson topped the efforts with three singles.

"This group is just an extension of our team," Howard noted. "We knew they could come in and give us some assistance.

"It's a whole lot different playing from in front early," he added. "It really helped (starting pitcher) Shawn (Kiley of Oberlin) get settled in with that much support."

Kiley kept the Paints' offense guessing over the first four frames, not surrendering a hit. He ended as the winning pitcher with five-plus innings of work in which he struck out four.
