New Orleans VooDoo News Release
NEW ORLEANS (September 12, 2012) - Recapping the 2012 season that saw the club finish in the postseason for only the second time in team history, the New Orleans VooDoo continues its count down of its Top 10 plays of year. The fourth edition includes No. 4 and No. 3.
No. 3: Jeremy Kellem's off-the-wall interception versus Orlando (5.18)
The New Orleans VooDoo fell behind by as many as 20 points in the game, but stormed back in the second half to take the 68-61 lead with 2:22 left in the 4th quarter. With the lead at hand, the VooDoo received a clutch, heads-up play from rookie defensive back Jeremy Kellem. Kellem had his hands full all night with AFL veteran T.T. Toliver, but had the last laugh as Predators quarterback Chris Leak was attempting to complete a pass to Toliver, but the ball took a VooDoo bounce off the wall, and Kellem kept it from touching the ground. It was originally ruled an incomplete pass by the officials, but after a Pat O'Hara challenge, the play was reversed. The VooDoo went on to win the game, 68-61, and Kellem was awarded the Cutters Catch of the Week Award from the AFL for the game-ending interception.
No. 4: Xavier Brown's sack and forced fumble, Derandus Frye tackle for a safety at Orlando (6.23)
Once again, the New Orleans VooDoo and Orlando Predators engaged in a neck-and-neck battle that would come down to the closing minutes of the 4th quarter in the two teams second meeting, and the VooDoo would again lean on its defense. Much like the first meeting, the VooDoo held a lead, 46-41, in the final minute, and the Predators offense lead by quarterback Chris Leak would have an opportunity to win the game. However, the VooDoo defense rose to the occasion as rookie defensive end Xavier Brown sacked Leak and forced a fumble in the process. Brown's fumble was recovered in the end zone by the Predators Thaddeus Coleman and Derandus Frye tackled Colmean in the end zone for the safety. The safety gave the VooDoo the 48-41 advantage and the ball with less than 20 seconds left, and the club went on to not only win the game, but sweep the season series against Orlando for the first time in franchise history.
