New Orleans VooDoo News Release
Officials with The New Orleans VooDoo announced on Wednesday that 2008's "Cinderella Quarterback," Danny Wimprine had been signed to play for the 2011 season.
Wimprine became the starting quarterback for the 2008 VooDoo after then-starter, Steve Bellisari, was injured during the first game of the regular season. Wimprine finished with an astounding 4,081 yards, 85 touchdowns, only 11 interceptions, and a 60.6% pass completion ratio. After the 2008 season, the VooDoo and the AFL folded.and he was just getting warmed up. Wimprine, a South Louisiana native, turned down opportunities to play in other markets for other teams, resigning himself to a life outside of football. With no local football opportunities available, Danny accepted a position with his family's local business as sales manager.
With the resurrection of the VooDoo for 2011, Wimprine has an opportunity to pick up where he left off two years ago and live the dream in front of his family and hometown crowd.
New Orleans VooDoo Owner, Dan Newman said, "Danny Wimprine can throw a football. He's a New Orleans son and a familiar face to VooDoo fans. Danny is an incredible personality and he is just the leader we are looking for when the VooDoo take the field in 2011."
Danny Wimprine is up for the challenge. He said, "I have to be in the best shape of my life. It's my responsibility to come back as a leader."
Wimprine is the first of many player signings for the 2011 free agency season. Derek Stingley was announced as the new VooDoo Head Coach yesterday (9/21/2010). Now, with the Head Coach and Quarterback in place, the New Orleans VooDoo are poised to take the AFL by storm when the season starts the first weekend in March with a 18-game regular season schedule.
The New Orleans VooDoo will play in the New Orleans Arena, a SMG managed facility directly across the street from the Louisiana Superdome. Season tickets for the VooDoo 9 regular season home games are on sale now by calling 1-888-277-5526. 2011 season ticket prices are frozen at VooDoo 2008 prices. And through October 15th people who purchase season tickets will receive the 9th regular season game ticket free.
