
New Orleans Voodoo Put Hex On Tampa Bay Storm, 64-33

TAMPA -- Behind quarterback D. Bryant (he goes by D.) and a strong defensive effort, New Orleans scored 33 unanswered points from the end of the half and the VooDoo broke a 6-game loosing streak to defeat the Tampa Bay Storm, 64-33, Friday night on Amalie Motor Oil Field at the St. Pete Times Forum in front of 12,016.
It was only the third win of the season for the Arena Football League team and the Storm (6-9) still have 3 games left to remain in the 2011 playoff chase.
Bryant, the former Duke standout, was 24-43 for 215 yards and 5 touchdowns. PJ Berry led five VooDoo (3-12) receivers with a pair of touchdowns.
Tampa quarterback Brian Zbydniewski (Zeb-ah-dew-ski) connecting on 17 of 26 for 189 yards and four TDs. He however had three interceptions.
Jonathan Ruffin, the former Lou Groza award winner when he was at the University of Cincinnati, connected on all of his extra points and nailed 29-yard first-period fieldon.
This was the first win under interim head coach Jon Norris who came down from the general manager's position to replace Derek Stingley, who was released last week.
The VooDoo outscored the Storm, 21-12, in the second quarter thanks to a fake field goal attempt. Backup quarterback Danny Wimprine, the holder, took the snap and then got up and ran from the 10 yard line. The official yardage was only 3 yards since the line off scrimmage was the three.
The play started with 1.6 seconds on the clock and when time ran out, New Orleans held a 31-25 lead at halftime.
Zbydniewski was 10-13 fofr 133 yards and 4 touchdowns. His rst interception was off the neck into the hands of former Orlando Predator Damon Mason.
Bryant was 18 of 30 in the first half, for 160 yards and three touchdowns. Leading first-half receivers were Jackson with 2 TDs on only four ctaches for 62 yards. Skyler Green led the VooDoo with six grabs for 57 yards and one score.
