New Mexico Stars improve to 4-4 with huge road victory

May 27, 2013 - Lone Star Football League (LSFL)
New Mexico Stars News Release

The New Mexico Stars improved to 4-4 on the season after a LSFL season high 89-82 victory on the road in San Angelo, TX. The game came down to the wire, but the Stars defense pushed the Bandits offense back to their own redzone, and stopped them on a 4th down conversion attempt to secure the win.

QB Kasey Peters put on his Thor helmet and put the hammer to the Bandits as he threw for 292 yards (19-for-27 passing), 9 TDs and 0 INTs. Peters favorite receiver tonight was Superman himself, Joshua Floyd. Floyd reeled in 9 catches for 151 yards and 2 TDs, with a long reception 40 yards. Consider that an arena league field is just 50 yards long, and you will understand why you don't see many 40 yard receptions in this league!

After the game Peters and Floyd said that 7-11 stays open all night long (Peters jersey number is 7, Floyd is 11), and as long as these two are on the field, the endzone will always be an option.

Even the unlikeliest of Stars players made the highlight film in this one as Lineman Chris Brown lined up as a TE and caught one of Peters' 9 TDs from 5 yards out. "I got the call once before, but didn't haul in the catch" Brown said. "There was no way that was happening again. I just looked the ball into my hands, and tried to squeeze it hard enough to pop it!"

It wasn't just the offense that scored tonight, the defense put in some work of their own in the win. DB Demarcus James, an Air Force veteran, stepped up on Memorial Day and got himself a 48-yard interception return for a touchdown. James also racked up 6 tackles, and currently leads the LSFL with 8 interceptions for 174 yards, and 2 TDs. There is little reason to believe that James won't finish the season as the Defensive Player of the year if he can keep this type of play up.

The Stars are currently in 3rd place in the LSFL, and will host the 6-2 Amarillo Venom on June 8th. It will be Super Hero night at the Star Center; anyone who dresses up as their favorite super hero will get to participate in a special half-time parade, with all first responders getting 50% off tickets.
