Fayetteville Patriots News Release

Over the last few weeks, the Huntsville Flight has made some changes to its roster, making it a little more potentate than the team the Fayetteville Patriots defeated four out of six coming into Wednesday's game. Just ask Fayetteville.

For the second time this season the Flight came to the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville and won by more than 20 points. This time the Flight knocked off the Patriots 125-100, and moved two games ahead of the Patriots in the race to be one of the four teams to make the NBDL Delta Air Lines Postseason Tournament. The loss puts the Patriots a game-and-half behind the Roanoke Dazzle for the fourth and final playoff spot.

Recent additions Damone Brown and Alex Scales led the way. Brown had 27 points, six rebounds and five assists on 11-for-18 shooting, while Scales finished with 17 points on 7-for-10 shooting.

"I really like the make up of our team right now,'' Huntsville coach Ralph Lewis said. "I thought we played our best ball game of the year tonight. From start to finish, we were really looked good. But we've got to come back in here Friday night, so we can dwell on this one too much."

After all the fun the Flight seemed to be having as shot after shot went through the net, there's probably not much left to enjoy. The Flight scored 38 points in the first quarter on 75 percent shooting to take a 19-point lead. For the half Huntsville shot 65 percent, maintained its 19-point lead at 62-43, and left nothing to wonder about except what the final score would be. The Flight shot 64 percent for the game– the best any team has ever shot against Fayetteville in its three-year history – and held a lead as big as 33 in the second half.

"I didn't imagine we would play as tentative as we did on the defensive end tonight,'' Patriots coach Jeff Capel said. "A couple of days ago (against Charleston), we came out and played with a lot of emotion defensively, and that's what we have to do every night. I was surprise at our lack of effort on the defensive end."

The Patriots were led by Junie Sanders' 24 points. Cedric Henderson chipped in with 21 points, seven rebounds and six steals. The Patriots played without Alvin Pettway, who was away attending a funeral, and Jason Capel who was injured. The same two teams play Friday night at the Crown, starting at 7:30.

"They have a very good team,'' Capel said. "They've made some additions in the last two weeks that's going to give them an excellent shot to win it all."
