New England Revolution's Carles Gil and Philadelphia Union's Jakob Glesnes Added to 2023 MLS All-Star Roster
Published on July 7, 2023 under Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release
NEW YORK - New England Revolution midfielder Carles Gil and Philadelphia Union center back Jakob Glesnes were today added to the 2023 MLS All-Star team by head coach Wayne Rooney to provide additional depth at key positions as the best in MLS take on Arsenal FC in the 2023 MLS All-Star Game on July 19 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. (8:30 p.m. ET / MLS Season Pass).
The 2021 Landon Donovan MLS MVP, Gil has been a driver for the Revolution, registering seven goals and nine assists across 19 matches. The midfielder is tied for third in the league with 16 goal contributions and has been an instrumental force in New England's strong start to the season, with the club currently sitting in third place in the Supporters' Shield standings.
Earning his second consecutive All-Star selection, Glesnes has started every game for the Union in 2023 and has the longest active ironman streak in MLS, making 93 consecutive starts for the club. The 2022 MLS Defender of the Year has helped guide a Philadelphia defense that has allowed just 22 goals in 2023, the fourth fewest in the Eastern Conference.
Gil and Glesnes will join the squad featuring five MLS All-Stars who are currently contributing to the United States Men's National Team's run at the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup, including Jesús Ferreira, Matt Miazga, Aidan Morris, Jordan Morris, and John Tolkin.
The MLS All-Star roster was selected through a combination of fan, player, and media voting, designations by All-Star head coach Wayne Rooney of host club D.C. United, and a pair of selections by MLS Commissioner Don Garber.
The MLS All-Star Game and MLS All-Star Skills Challenge presented by AT&T 5G at Audi Field will be available to watch in more than 100 countries and regions in English, Spanish, and French on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app. Fans can subscribe to MLS Season Pass now through the Apple TV app on Apple devices, smart TVs, streaming devices, set-top boxes, game consoles, and the web at tv.apple.com.
