New Coach, Two Players and a Little Help From Above

San Angelo Stampede Express News Release


The San Angelo Stampede Express of the Intense Football League has undergone an extreme makeover. The team has a new name, new offices, new logos, new colors, and will have some new players. Now the biggest change is complete, a new Head Coach. However, not everything will be different as three familiar faces return along with the new one.

J.T. Smith has been selected as the 3rd Head Coach in team history. Smith played his high school football for Big Spring. He attended North Texas State University in Denton from 1974-1977. Smith had a 13 year playing career in the NFL from 1978-1990. He was a selected to the Pro Bowl in 1980 & 1988. He led the NFL in receiving and receiving yards in 1987. He has a player development company, Star 84 Athletes. He has served as an Assistant Coach for the Iowa Barnstormers and as a Head Coach Consultant for the Dallas Desperados.

Toby Davis, a Fullback/Linebacker, is a former Central Bobcat who played his college ball down the road at Howard Payne University in Brownwood. This will be his second season of indoor football and his second season with the Stampede Express. Toby could be the strongest player in all of indoor football with a bench press of 485 lbs. and a squat of 625 lbs. While playing through a hamstring injury last season, Toby still rushed for 96 yards and 1 touchdown. He finished last season with 108 all purpose yards and 3.0 tackles.

Barrett Dallmeyer is a former Angelo State University Ram who is also entering his second season in indoor football and second season with the Stampede Express. He is a 6'4", 280 lb. Offensive and Defensive Lineman from Austin. Last season in 12 games Barrett recorded 26.0 tackles, 19 of which were solos, including 5.5 for losses. He tied a single game team record last season with 2.0 tackles for losses in the March 25th game at Wyoming. Barrett also recorded 2 sacks, 3 quarterback hurries and blocked a kick last season.

In other team news, the Stampede Express is proud to announce the return of Pastor Walt Landers as Team Chaplin. Pastor Walt is the Senior Pastor at TLC, a family church. This will be his 3rd year as Team Chaplin.

The Stampede Express will begin their 3rd season in the spring of 2006, with 7 action packed games at the San Angelo Coliseum.
