New Brunswick Native Re-Signs with Magic

(Moncton, NB.) For the second straight season, the Moncton Magic will have a New Brunswick native on their roster. The team announced today that Brad States, originally from Bathurst, NB., has re-signed with the team for another season.
States, a 6'7" power forward who will be entering his fourth season in the NBL Canada joined the Magic just before last season's trade deadline. Head Coach and GM of Player Operations Joe Salerno claims re-signing States for a second tour was an easy decision.
"Although he may not have seen a ton of action last season after joining us so late, Brad played an integral piece for us. He is the ultimate team first guy. He comes to work everyday and puts in 100% effort, and he is always ready to roll when his number is called on game day" commented Salerno. "Every good team has hard nose guys like Brad. He knows his role, accepts it, and does whatever he can in his power to help his team win ball games."
States is no stranger to basketball in the Maritimes. After a stellar career at Bathurst High School, where he was named "Mr. Basketball" for the province of New Brunswick in 2011, he went on to play his university ball at Acadia where he won an AUS Championship in 2012. He would later transfer to UPEI, where he was named a first team AUS all-star in 2016 when he averaged 18.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game for the Panthers.
States spent his first two seasons in the NBL with the Island Storm, where he played for Salerno his rookie year back in 2017. Last year he saw time with the Storm, and the St. John's Edge before eventually being picked up by the Magic on the eve of the league transaction deadline, a team he says he is looking forward to being part of again.
"I am extremely happy to be re-signing with the Magic and picking up where we left off last year. I really am honored to be able to play professional basketball in my home province and it just turns out to be for the best organization in the league" commented States. "I can't wait to see the Moncton Magic faithful pack the Avenir Centre once again this year, as we try to win another Championship."
States marks the ninth player the team has announced for their upcoming training camp kicking off in November. Out of the current nine, six of those players will be returning from last years team that compiled a record of 38-16 and went on to win it's first NBL Canada Championship. States will join Corey Allmond, Jason Calliste, Wayne McCullough, Marcus Lewis and Denzell Taylor as the returnees the team has announced thus far. NBL Canada veteran Jeremiah Mordi and newcomers Brandon Neel and Dinjiyl Walker have also signed with the club for the upcoming season.
