Orange County Flyers News Release

Fullerton, CA - Feb 18, 2009 - New Orange County Flyers manager Phil Nevin wasted little time filling the 3 spots on his 2009 Coaching Staff as he named Paul Abbott, Dave Bacani and Robert Bafia as coaches for the defending GBL Champions this upcoming season.

Nevin and all 3 coaches have already began preparations for defending the title Orange County won last year over Calgary in a hard fought best of 5 series that went down to the final at bat with the Flyers capturing the crown 10-9. They have been in contact with players from last year's team as well as getting ready for the Flyer's Open Tryouts February 28th and March 1st at Northwood High School in Irvine.

"I am very excited to have Abby come on board as pitching coach", said Nevin of his friend Paul Abbott who played for 6 Major League Teams from 1990 to 2004. "He is someone that has always done the right things in this sport and respects the game a great deal. He really enjoys teaching both the mechanical and mental side of being on the mound. Anytime you can have someone that has excelled at the highest level working with your staff it's a huge plus."

"Dave Bacani is someone that has been an integral part of the Flyer organization for the last two years and brings a ton of energy to the park every day" stated Nevin. "This is a great opportunity for him to start making the transition into what no doubt will be a very successful coaching career at any level and continue his rehab from off season shoulder surgery until he is ready to get back on the field and play."

Robert Bafia is another close friend that joins Nevin as he takes over the helm of the Flyers.

"Robert Bafia is what is known as a baseball junky," beamed Nevin. "He absolutely loves being around the game and loves to win! With playing and coaching experience on many levels he will spearhead organizing both the tryouts and spring training schedules. The thing the players will love most about him is that he probably throws the best batting practice I have ever seen."
