Omaha Nighthawks News Release
OMAHA, NE - Monday, August 9 - ZACH NELSON, CEO of NetSuite Inc. (N: NYSE) and an Omaha native has become an owner of the city's United Football League franchise the Omaha Nighthawks and has stepped forward to take an early leadership position with the team.
Nelson will work with the UFL during the coming weeks to build out the ownership group with other prominent Omahans and potential owner/investors who share a belief that the Nighthawks are an important asset to the city.
As an Omaha native who was born and raised in the city and attended high school at Mount Michael in Elkhorn, Nelson has extensive ties with the area and the state of Nebraska.
"I have been in the market on several occasions during the past few months and have witnessed first-hand how excited the people of the greater Omaha area are to have a professional football team of their own," said Nelson.
"I am enthused about the long-term prospects of the Nighthawks, believing that it will have an enduring and positive impact on the greater Omaha community due to the work the team is doing, especially with the youth of Omaha. The partnership with the KROC Center is a great example of this type of work."
United Football League Commissioner MICHAEL HUYGHUE said: "We are thrilled to have such a prominent business leader join the UFL and the Nighthawks. The franchise has become an attractive investment opportunity through its success off the field in a relatively short space of time and we are excited that Zach Nelson has recognized the potential of the organization."
Nelson also based his decision to invest in the Nighthawks on the fact that the Omaha and Nebraska region is a football hotbed and that fans will embrace this team as their own. He added: "This will be a great investment and is economically viable; fun, yes, but also a profitable venture. I am incredibly excited about the prospects of the United Football League and the Omaha Nighthawks.
"I feel the staff, led by Head Coach Jeff Jagodzinski and GM Rick Mueller, will quickly prove that the team and the market are the league's leaders. I always say that the N in NetSuite stands for Nebraska. In my mind, it now also stands for the Nighthawks."
The Nighthawks season kicks off at home against the Hartford Colonials on Friday, September 24 at Rosenblatt Stadium, kickoff 7pm CST, live on HDNet. Season tickets are available from UFL-Football.com.
