Nepiarsky, Bay Sox Double up North Adams 4-2

New Bedford Bay Sox News Release
Another quality start from Samuel Nepiarsky (UConn) led to another Bay Sox home win on Tuesday evening, as New Bedford defeated North Adams 4-2.
Hamilton slugger Ryan Wolfsberg, who leads the Bay Sox in homers and is tied for the team lead in RBIs in just seven games with the squad, broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth with a bases-clearing triple. The home team packed the sacks on three walks, with a stolen base from both Robbie Doring (Dayton) and Ted Shaw (Sacred Heart) mixed in. Wolfsberg ripped a 3-2 pitch to straight-away center field, and hustled to third base with a head-first slide for his fifth extra-base hit of the year.
Nepiarsky (3-0), who came into the game with a miniscule 0.55 ERA in his two starts with the Bay Sox, gave back two runs in the top of the sixth inning, which cut the New Bedford lead to 3-2. The UConn hurler walked the leadoff batter, and then after recording his seventh strikeout of his outing, he allowed back-to-back hits that drove in runs. Nepiarsky was able to escape further damage by retiring the last two SteepleCats hitters on two fly outs.
Nepiarsky's outing ended after the sixth inning, as the righty went six strong innings, allowing two runs on just four hits, with three uncharacteristic walks and seven strikeouts. Nepiarsky entered the game with just one free pass in his previous 16.1 innings of work, but still has a terrific 0.85 WHIP in his 22.1 innings. Daniel Southerland (Wheaton) entered in the seventh inning, and was the beneficiary of a great play by Wolfsberg at first base on a pickoff play to end the frame.
Dylan Collett (St. Leo) pitched the eighth inning, and worked around a one-out walk to conserve the one-run lead. The Bay Sox added an insurance run in the bottom of that frame, with Jakob Goldfarb (Oregon) singling to lead off the inning. He moved to second on a stolen base, traveled to third on a fly out to the right field foul line by Alex Mata (St. Leo), and traversed the final 90 feet on a ball crushed to the warning track by Ryan Tufts (Virginia Tech).
Darrien Ragins (Delaware State) came in for the save in the ninth inning, adding to his scoreless streak of appearances for the Bay Sox. Ragins now has two saves, and has pitched 12.1 innings without giving up an earned run.
North Adams starter Ryan Tapp (1-1) picked up the loss, but pitched very well until the fifth inning, escaping just one prior scoring threat in the bottom of the first. It started with Shaw ripping a double with one out deep to right field. Ryan Baldwin (Barry) drew a walk to place runners at first and second, but a fielder's choice and a fly out left two Bay Sox on base without placing the game's first run on the scoreboard.
With the win, New Bedford moves to 5-10 on the season, with four of those wins coming at Paul Walsh Field. They are 5-1 when scoring first, and are 4-2 when allowing three or fewer runs in a game this year.
For the third straight week, the Bay Sox will embark on a three-game road trip before their next home game on Sunday evening against the Mystic Schooners. The Sox will travel to Laconia, NH to face the Winnipesaukee Muskrats on Wednesday, then will see the Ocean State Waves for the first time on Thursday night.
