The Cape Breton Highlanders are still within sight of the upper half of the NBL's standings, but a Friday night 102-89 road loss to the Moncton Magic didn't help their cause. Halifax Hurricanes
Coach: Mike Leslie Home arena: Scotiabank Centre

NBL CANADA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The National Basketball League of Canada is pleased to announce that Bruce Massey of the Cape Breton Highlanders has been named Player of the Week for the week ending November 25, 2018.
The National Basketball League of Canada is pleased to announce that Gabe Freeman of the Halifax Hurricanes has been named Player of the Week for the week ending December 2, 2018.
Freeman, a 6'6" forward who played collegiately at Costa Mesa CC, averaged 22.5 points per game ans 12.0 rebounds per game in the Hurricanes' two victories, pushing the Nova Scotia crew from dead last in the standings to a third-place berth. He also helped engineer some late-game heroics in a Sunday afternoon victory over the St. John's Edge.
"Gabe's such a warrior, he's of that same mentality," said Halifax head coach Mike Leslie. "And he does so many things on the floor to help your team get in a position to win, and that three that he knocked down tonight was a huge shot, but he also made the play that got us the opportunity to win in the end - the play was drawn for him, but he found the second option to Tyrone Watson, and that's how he helps us win. We have a younger group right now, and we're pleased to have him as a leader right now."
-November 18, 2018: Jaylen Bland, Sudbury Five.
-November 25, 2018: Bruce Massey, Cape Breton Highlanders.
-December 2, 2018: Gabe Freeman, Halifax Hurricanes.
NBL CANADA CANADIAN PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The National Basketball League of Canada is pleased to announce that Tyler Scott of the Island Storm has been named Canadian of the Week for the week ending December 2, 2018.
Scott, a 6'3" guard who played collegiately at Prince Edward Island, scored 22 points, pulled down 7 rebounds, and had a blocked shot in the Storm's only game of the week, a 123-111 home victory over the London Lightning. And he played the game with a broken finger on his left (non-shooting) hand.
"I told the players before we played that night," said Storm head coach Tim Kendrick, "I was pleased and happy with our practices, and we were concernred whether there was going to be some rust, but once Tyler hit a pair of three-pointers, I said to the players, every time Tyler gets a look, let's get him the ball. And once he makes a couple of shots, he's a very tough guard to beat."
-November 18, 2018: Gentrey Thomas, Moncton Magic.
-November 25, 2018: Jamal Reynolds, Cape Breton Highlanders.
-December 2, 2018: Tyler Scott, Island Storm.
NBL CANADA COACH OF THE MONTH
The National Basketball League of Canada is pleased to announce that Joe Salerno of the Moncton Magic has been named Coach of the Month for November 2018. This is Salerno's third Coach of the Month honours, as he joins Halifax's Mike Leslie and Windsor's Bill Jones as current coaches with three-time career Coach of the Month achievements
Salerno and the Moncton Magic finished November with a 6-0 regular season record, the best start for any New Brunswick-based NBL Canada team in league history. Only the 2012-13 London Lightning and 2016-17 Halifax Hurricanes have achieved a longer winning streak to start an NBL Canada season.
"Coach Salerno's hard work and dedication to this league have paid off this season," said Chuck Miller, NBL Canada Director of League Statistics. "He has a good solid balance of veteran talent and new faces, and the end result is a fast start to his eighth season in the league."
