NBL CANADA PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The National Basketball League of Canada is pleased to announce that Mike Poole of the Halifax Hurricanes has been named Player of the Week for the week ending January 6, 2019. This is the third time that the Hurricanes have had a Player of the Week in the 2018-19 season.

Poole, a 6'5" forward who played collegiately at Iona, helped the Hurricanes win their two games this week by averaging 32.0 points per game, including a 39-point effort in a victory over the Saint John Riptide.

"Earlier in the season, he was barely averaging nine points per game," said Hurricanes head coach Mike Leslie. "We sat down and had a really good chat about him wanting to be more aggressive off the ball, and he's taken that on himself. He's in the gym every day shooting the basketball in an enormous number of repetitions. Shooters are going to shoot their way out of a slump, and it's a recognition of what he could do - all the ways he could potentially score, for example. It's hard work on his end."

Cadougan, a 6'2" guard who played collegiately at Marquette, averaged 17.0 points in four Edge victories this week; he also made several key plays in clutch situations to lead the Edge to the win column.

"Junior's been our heart and soul this season," said Edge head coach Doug Plumb. "I signed him in the offseason, because i've known Junior for over five years - he's one of the toughest individuals I've seen in my entire basketball career. Junior to me is the consummate winner, he makes timely plays and he's one heck of a defender. He always seems to come up with a big play at the time when it's needed."
