NBDL Playoff Picture

Published on March 13, 2003 under NBA G League (G League) News Release

The 2003 NBDL Playoffs begin in just under two weeks, and with the exception to the Fayetteville Patriots owning the top seed and the home court advantage throughout the playoffs, nothing else is settled.

North Charleston's magic number is two (2) wins due to variations in the tiebreaker system with teams in the fifth through eighth spots. All things finishing equal, the Lowgators would win a tiebreaker against every team but Columbus, should the Riverdragons win out and North Charleston end up with just 25 wins.

Mobile's magic number to snare a spot is three (3) due to several variations of the tiebreaker system as well. The Revelers travel to Columbus Friday in attempt to notch victory number eight in nine tries against the Riverdragons this season. Coach Sam Vincent's squad plays five of its last six games on the road.

Roanoke's magic number to clinch a playoff spot is also three (3). Coach Kent Davison's club does not own the tiebreaker with Columbus, should the Riverdragons put themselves in a position to win 25 games, or with Greenville should the Groove win at Roanoke on March 16 and finish with 25 victories. For that scenario to come into play, Roanoke will have to lose three of five.

Asheville, Huntsville, Columbus and Greenville are all mathematically alive for NBDL Playoff positions, but are facing an uphill climb and need help from other teams down the stretch. Columbus is the wildcard since the Riverdragons would come out on the positive end of many tiebreaker situations.

Greenville won the inaugural NBDL Championship but will need assistance for a return trip to the playoffs.
