BELLYING UP TO THE COOLER: The NBDL has bellied up big time to the cooler this week with three GATORADE Call-ups in seven days, the third being Asheville Altitude point guard Brandin Knight, who was signed by the Houston Rockets to a 10-day contract on Sunday.

2004-05 GATORADE CALLUPS
Player NBDL Team NBA Team Date
Kirk Penney Asheville Altitude Los Angeles Clippers Dec. 26
James Thomas Roanoke Dazzle Portland Trail Blazers Jan. 9
Obinna Ekezie Columbus Riverdragons Atlanta Hawks Jan. 10
Brandin Knight Asheville Altitude Houston Rockets Jan. 16

CAN I HELP YOU SIR? With 15 assists to go with his 18 points in Sunday's win over Huntsville, Roanoke point guard Cory Alexander has dished out 69 assists in his last six games (11.5 per game).

IF NOT, I CAN: Fayetteville point guard Omar Cook dished out 10 assists against Florida on Sunday and did not commit a turnover.

RODNEY REBOUND: Huntsville Flight forward Rodney Bias gathered 21 rebounds Sunday against Roanoke, but even that wasn't enough to notch the highest total in a game this season. Bias fell three boards shy of his own NBDL single-game record of 24 rebounds collected December 11 against Florida.

TAKE A NUMBER: Patiently waiting his turn as a backup to Brandin Knight, Asheville point guard Timmy Bowers answered in a big way when his number was called Sunday. With Knight called up to the Rockets, Bower played 40 minutes, converted six of 12 field goal attempts and dished out six assists.
