NBDL daily developments
Published on December 31, 2004 under NBA G League (G League) News Release
FIRST OF FOUR: Call it a quirk of scheduling, call it a unique situation, call it getting really familiar with an opponent, but Columbus' 103-94 win over Fayetteville was the first of four consecutive games between the Riverdragons and the Patriots. The next meeting is New Year's Day in Columbus, followed by a game January 6 at Columbus and January 8 at Fayetteville.
NBDL QUIZ: A victory Saturday would give Columbus the NBDL record for best start to a season at 12-1. What team currently holds the record for best start to a season?
ONLY ON SATURDAY: If Fayetteville is to keep the Riverdragons from securing the record for best start to a season, then Saturday should be the day. Both of the Patriots' victories this season have come on a Saturday. Problem is, the Riverdragons lead the season series 2-0 and have won nine straight games.
FOUR PALLETS: The Rescue Mission of Roanoke reports that Dazzle fans contributed four pallets full of gifts and food in a recent game promotion to help those in need in the Roanoke Valley. The Dazzle offered fans a free ticket to their December 23 game against the Huntsville Flight in exchange for any single item, which included nonperishable foods, clothing, and toys.
HOLIDAY FLAME: The Florida Flame unofficially holds the designation as the NBDL's 2004 traveling holiday party. The Flame, the NBDL's newest team, played at Huntsville on Christmas Day and will play on New Year's Day, also on the road at Roanoke.
LEST WE FORGET THE FLIGHT: Huntsville will also play on both Christmas and New Year's Day, but loses the holiday nod to Florida because both games are at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.
BASKETBALL AND BOWLS: Columbus will furnish a courtside, big screen TV to allow fans to catch all the action of their favorite college football bowl game while enjoying the excitement of Riverdragons basketball New Year's Day. Plus, all fans who wear gear representing their favorite college football team will receive $3 off a regular priced ticket at the Columbus Civic Center box office prior to the game.
MLK SHOWCASE: The MLK Showcase, featuring every NBDL team in six games over two days, is scheduled for January 16-17 at the Columbus (Ga.) Civic Center. Games will be played at 11 a.m., 2 and 5 p.m. on both days.
QUIZ ANSWER: The North Charleston Lowgators went 11-2 to begin the inaugural NBDL season in 2001-02.
