AUSTIN'S MALIK HAIRSTON NAMED NBA DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE PERFORMER OF THE WEEK

Malik Hairston of the Austin Toros was named NBA Development League Performer of the Week for games played during the week of Jan. 18, 2010. Hairston, on assignment from the San Antonio Spurs, led Austin to a 4-0 record last week, including victories over the Erie BayHawks, Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Maine Red Claws, and Springfield Armor. He scored a team-season-high 43 points in an overtime road victory over the Red Claws in Portland, Maine on Jan. 22. Hairston averaged 35.8 points, shooting 49 percent (48-of-99) from the field to go with 3.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists. He scored more than 30 points in all four contests last week.

JAZZ SIGNS D-LEAGUE CALL-UP SUNDIATA GAINES FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SEASON

Utah Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor announced yesterday the Jazz has signed rookie guard Sundiata Gaines for the remainder of the season. Gaines was originally signed to a 10-day contract by the Jazz on January 5 before being re-signed to a second 10-day contract on Jan. 15. Gaines has appeared in seven games for the Jazz, averaging 2.9 points and 1.1 assists in 7.1 minutes per game. Gaines became the fourth NBA Development League (D-League) Call-Up to the NBA this season, as well as the fourth D-League Call-Up in Jazz history, joining Rusty LaRue (2000-01), Mikki Moore (2003-04) and Louis Amundson (2006-07).

JAZZ'S KOUFOS ASSIGNED TO NBA D-LEAGUE AFFILIATE UTAH FLASH

Utah Jazz second-year center Kosta Koufos was assigned to the Utah Flash, the Jazz's NBA Development League affiliate, it was announced yesterday. Koufos is the 13th NBA player, and the first member of the Jazz, to be assigned to an NBA D-League affiliate this season. He joins four other NBA players currently on assignment in the NBA D-League. Koufos, a 7-0 center out of Ohio State, has appeared in 21 games for the Jazz this season and is averaging 1.3 points in 3.6 minutes.

J.R. Giddens, on assignment from the Boston Celtics, scored 22 points on 8-for-9 shooting, to go with 10 rebounds as Maine defeated Utah. Alexis Ajinca, on assignment from the Charlotte Bobcats, added 16 points and eight rebounds.

Brian Hamilton led Utah with 23 points. Kosta Koufos, on assignment from the Jazz, added 16 points and eight rebounds.

ALUMNI ACHIEVEMENTS: A look at NBA D-League Alumni in last night's NBA games:

19 players with NBA D-League experience competed in nine NBA games last night, four as a starter.

Dahntay Jones came off the bench to score 18 points for the Pacers in a win over Philadephia.

Martell Webster started and scored 14 points for Portland in a loss to New Orleans.
