IOWA'S COURTNEY SIMS CALLED UP TO NEW YORK KNICKS
The New York Knicks signed Iowa Energy center Courtney Sims, making him the 16th GATORADE Call-Up of the 2008-09 NBA Development League season and the 134th overall since the league began play in 2001. The call-up is the third of the season for Sims.
Sims, 6-11, has played in 32 games for the Energy this season, averaging 22.8 points, 11.0 rebounds and 38.8 minutes while shooting 61 percent (277-of-458) from the field. He has scored in double figures in all 32 games, recording 22 point/rebound double-doubles and scoring 30 or more points on six occasions. Twice called-up by Phoenix this season, Sims has appeared in one NBA game this season for the Suns.
ROCKETS SIGN JAMES WHITE FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SEASON
Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey announced that the team has signed guard/forward James White to a multi-year deal. He was signed to an original 10-day contract by the Rockets on Mar. 3 and inked a second 10-day contract on Mar. 13. White joined Houston from the Anaheim Arsenal of the NBA D-League, becoming the 12th GATORADE Call-Up of the season.
White has appeared in one game with the Rockets since his Call-Up, notching five points (2-2 FG, 1-1 3FG), one assist, one steal and one blocked shot in 3:42 of action vs. Minnesota (3/20/09). He averaged 25.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.18 steals in 34 games (33 starts) for the Arsenal this season. At the time of his Call-Up, White was tied for first in the D-League in points per game and was ranked tied for 12th in the league in field goal percentage. White posted 30 or more points in 12 contests with the Arsenal in 2008-09, including a season-high 47-point performance against Houston's D-League affiliate Rio Grande Valley Vipers (1/20/09).
THUNDER RECALL D.J. WHITE FROM TULSA 66ERS
Oklahoma City Thunder Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti announced that the team has recalled forward D.J. White from the Tulsa 66er. White was originally assigned to Tulsa on March 18. He appeared in three games for the 66ers averaging 17.3 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 assist in 37.7 minutes.
TORONTO RECALLS NATE JAWAI
The Toronto Raptors announced they have recalled rookie forward-centre Nathan Jawai from the Idaho Stampede. Jawai was assigned to the Raptors' affiliate on February 26 and appeared in 10 games with the Stampede, starting nine. He averaged 12.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.2 blocks and 25.0 minutes.
ALBUQUERQUE'S WILL CONROY NAMED NBA D-LEAGUE PERFORMER OF THE WEEK
Albuquerque's Will Conroy was named NBA D-League Performer of the Week for games played during the week of March 16, 2009. Conroy becomes the first player to earn the honor twice during the 2008-09 season and is also the all-time leader with a total of four Performer of the Week nods. Conroy led the Thunderbirds to a 2-1 record this week, averaging nearly a triple-double with 25.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 12.7 assists while setting a new season high with 18 assists in Friday's loss to Rio Grande Valley. His scoring high from the week came on Saturday when he netted 29 points in a win over Erie.
ALUMNI ACHIEVEMENTS: A look at D-League Alumni in last night's NBA games:
17 players with D-League experience competed in six NBA games last night, three as starters.
As a starter for Washington, Andray Blatche notched a double-double, scoring 15 points to go with 13 rebounds.
Denver's Chris Andersen finished with 12 points in 26 minutes of play.
