TODAY AT NOON: The 2005-06 NBA Development League Rookie of the Year will be announced.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF YEAR: The league announced Tuesday that Austin guard Derrick Zimmerman won the D-League Defensive Player of the Year award for the second consecutive season. Zimmerman was selected by a vote of the league's head coaches. He leads the league in steals (80), steals per game (1.9) and is first among players that have played at least 40 games in minutes played (36.6 pg).

THEY SAID IT: "We had a saying in the D-League that just because someone else goes up to the NBA, it doesn't mean you're not doing good things. It just means there was a specific need that a team needed filled. And I think that's what's happened for me with the Hawks." ... former Roanoke guard Anthony Grundy told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about getting a late-season GATORADE Call-Up to the Hawks.

D-LAND OF GIANTS: According to a Fort Worth Star-Telegram listing in today's edition, four of the 10 tallest players on NBA rosters are currently playing in the D-League. In descending order they are 7-5 Pavel Podkolzin (Dallas/Fort Worth), 7-3 Ha Seung-Jin (Portland/Fort Worth), 7-3 Peter John Ramos (Washington/Roanoke) and 7-2 Martynas Andriuskevicius (Cleveland/Arkansas).

I'LL HAVE WHAT HE'S HAVING: Since returning from a 10-day stint with the SuperSonics, Austin forward Marcus Fizer is averaging 37.0 points and 9.0 rebounds. Over that five-game stretch he has raised his scoring average to a league-leading 22.7 per game.

FLAME RECORD: Duane Erwin set a Florida Flame team record by collecting 22 rebounds in a win at Roanoke on Tuesday. The D-League record is owned by Rodney Bias, who grabbed 26 against the Flame on March 24, 2005 as a member of the Huntsville Flight.

BY GEORGE: Tulsa's Otis George converted 10-of-11 FGA and scored 25 points as the 66ers kept a faint playoff hope alive in a victory over Austin on Tuesday.
