PODKOLZIN MAKES 27: The Dallas Mavericks assigned center Pavel Podkolzin (PAH-vil pud-CULL-zeen) to the Fort Worth Flyers on Tuesday, making him the 27th NBA player to be assigned (34th total assignment) to a D-League affiliate this season. Podkolzin is the third Maverick to be assigned to Fort Worth this season. Josh Powell and Rawle Marshall have both been recalled to Dallas.

THEY SAID IT: "It's probably going to be good for me. I'm going to have minutes to play. The foot is OK. I'm ready to go." ... Dallas Mavericks center Pavel Podkolzin told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on his assignment to the Fort Worth Flyers.

OTHER...TUESDAY...MOVES: The Arkansas RimRockers acquired guard Garrett Richardson from the D-League available player pool. The Tennessee State product is the grandson of legendary University of Arkansas basketball coach Nolan Richardson...Roanoke post player Jason Clark left the team.

PRINCIPAL FOR A DAY: Austin Toros team president Mike Berry will participate in the Round Rock (Texas) Independent School District's "Principal for a Day" program today at Brushy Creek elementary School. As the principal for the day, Berry will perform various duties for the school principal as well as speak to students about citizenship, positive behavior and scholastic achievement.

ON POINT: Should Roanoke's Will Bynum hang on, he will be the first point guard to lead the D-League in scoring, but the fourth to finish in the top five in both scoring and assists. Two of the other three also played for the Dazzle. Former Roanoke point guards Marque Perry (2003-04) and Cory Alexander (2002-03) both finished fifth in scoring at 15.4 and 16.5 respectively. Perry was third in assists (6.7) and Alexander first (6.1). Terrell McIntyre rounds out the list, finishing fifth in scoring (15.3) and third in assists (4.9) with Fayetteville in 2001-02.

TODAY IN D-LEAGUE HISTORY: Current Charlotte Bobcats guard Matt Carroll signed with the San Antonio Spurs from the roster of the Roanoke Dazzle on March 8, 2004. Carroll eventually returned to Roanoke and was selected as the 2005 D-League MVP.
