NBA Access with Ahmad Rashad takes look at D-League
Published on December 6, 2006 under NBA G League (G League) News Release
This week, NBA Access with Ahmad Rashad on ABC takes an exclusive look at players in the NBA Development League as they live the dream of making it to the NBA.
Cameras follow the defending champion Albuquerque Thunderbirds as they journey to China on a preseason tour. Former NBA and WNBA champion Michael Cooper coaches this young and hungry group, led by former NBA first-rounder Troy Bell and ex-NBA star Terry Cummings' son, TJ.
The show will also focus on the Los Angeles Lakers' new D-League entry, the Los Angeles D-Fenders. The young players on this team are coached the "Laker Way", which includes tutelage from Tex Winter on the famed triangle offense, and they receive constant encouragement from team executive Jeanie Buss and Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant.
Two more new teams in the D-League came over from the CBA: the Dakota Wizards and the Sioux Falls Skyforce. These teams give the league a home-grown feel, and young coach Dave Joerger (Wizards) and basketball lifer Mo McHone (Skyforce) are both hoping to coach their way to the next level.
Finally, the show will go inside training camp with another new entry, the Colorado 14ers. Four point guards compete for only two roster spots, and viewers will get an all-access look at team meetings and closed door sessions that decide the players' fates.
A look inside the NBA Development League on NBA Access with Ahmad Rashad Sunday, December 10 at 12:30 p.m. ET, 3:00 p.m. PT on ABC stations.
