North Shore Navigators News Release
LYNN, MASS. - Lynn native and North Shore Navigator Tyler Gauthier has signed a free agent contract with the Tampa Bay Rays organization. Gauthier becomes the second Navigator this season to receive serious attention from a professional organization. Earlier in the season Ryley MacEachern (Stony Brook) was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies (MacEachern did not sign). By signing his contract with the Rays, Gauthier will forfeit his remaining college eligibility and his roster spot on the Navigators.
"Tyler was great for us out of the bullpen this season," said Navigators General Manager Bill Terlecky. "Although we will miss his arm out of the bullpen, we are excited to see what he will do in the Rays organization. We wish him the best of luck."
Gauthier, a graduate of Wyoma little league, Lynn Babe Ruth and Lynn Classical High School, was in his first season with the Navigators alongside his brother Kyle Gauthier (Hartford). This season, Tyler was an anchor out of the bullpen for the Navigators as he earned two saves in seven appearances. Gauthier also recorded a 1.14 ERA while striking out 12 in only 15.2 innings. Opponents only hit .258 against Gauthier this season.
With this signing, Gauthier joins 11 other former Navigators who have been signed by Major League teams in the past three years.
