New York/New Jersey Juggernaut News Release
LITTLE FALLS, NJ...The Akron Racers swept the day's doubleheader against the NY/NJ Juggernaut with a 2-0 win in the second game. The Juggernaut managed only four hits in two games as Akron starter Danielle Henderson and reliever Brandee McArthur combined for the second two-hitter of the day.
Henderson pitched 4.2 innings allowing just two hits, three walks, and no runs, while striking out two. McArthur replaced her in the fifth and pitched the remaining 2.1 innings, giving up no hits, no runs, and one walk.
The Racers struck first in the top of the fifth inning when designated player Antionette Armstrong was hit by a pitch by Juggernaut starter Gina Oaks. Armstrong then stole second and third base before reaching home on a botched groundball to Oaks. Armstrong went 1-for-2 with a run scored in the second game.
Akron then continued to score the next inning when first baseman Nicole Trimboli doubled home Iyhia McMichael, who led off the sixth with a double to right-center. Oaks then stopped a potential rally by striking out both Armstrong and shortstop Kristin Johnson to end the inning. Oaks pitched a complete seven innings, giving up five hits, one earned run, no walks, while striking out 11
The Nauts had bases loaded with two-outs in the fifth after third baseman Jaclyn Pasquerella reached on an error and first baseman Kellie Wilkerson and Oaks were both walked, but were unable to score. Shortstop Lyndsey Klein's line-drive between shortstop and third was snared by third baseman Lindsay Wood to end the inning.
