New York/New Jersey Juggernaut News Release

LITTLE FALLS, NJ....The NY/NJ Juggernaut dropped their first home game of the season with a 3-1 loss to the Akron Racers in the first game of tonight's doubleheader. Their record now stands at 9-5, while the Racers improve to 8-5.

Akron got all the runs they needed in the first inning when first baseman Nicole Trimboli singled home rightfielder Trena Peel and centerfielder Iyhia McMichael to jump ahead 2-0. Peel reached first on a one-out walk by Juggernaut starter Kaci Clark, and McMichael was put on with a throwing error by shortstop Lyndsey Klein. McMichael went 2-for-4 with a run scored against Clark.

Clark went a complete seven innings, giving up seven hits, one earned run, and two walks, while striking out four. With the loss, Clark's record now drops to 1-2.

The Nauts' managed to score one against Akron starter Nikki Myers in the third. Centerfielder Venus Taylor beat out a bunt for a one-out basehit and then scored when second baseman Carri Leto singled up the middle. Those would be the only hits the Juggernaut would get all game. Myers pitched three innings, giving up two hits, and one earned run before being replaced by Radara McHugh in the fourth. McHugh picked up her first win of the season and shutdown the Nauts as she allowed no hits, no runs, and only two walks over the course of four innings.

Racers' second baseman Brandi Stuart tacked on an insurance run in the fifth with a leadoff solo homerun that ricocheted off the scoreboard. Leftfielder Antoinette Armstrong also had multiple hits for the Racers, going 2-for-3.

Game two of the doubleheader will begin at 6:45.
