Nashville SC's Hany Mukhtar Voted MLS Player of the Week, Presented by Continental Tire, for Second Consecutive Week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Nashville Soccer Club in conjunction with Major League Soccer announced today that MVP frontrunner Hany Mukhtar was voted the MLS Player of the Week, presented by Continental Tire, for the 29th Week of the 2022 MLS season.

Mukhtar scored his sixth multi-goal game of the season on Saturday, the most of any MLS player in 2022 en route to a 3-0 win over second seeded Austin FC. Mukhtar found the back of the net in the 82nd minute giving Nashville an insurance goal and closed the door on Austin with a goal in stoppage time as MVP chants echoed throughout GEODIS Park.

Following his nomination in Week 28, Mukhtar is the first player to win MLS Player of the Week presented by Continental Tire in consecutive weeks since Raúl Ruidíaz for Seattle Sounders FC in Weeks 19-20 of 2021. Since the start of 2016, he joins Ruidíaz, Javier 'Chicharito' Hernández, Vela, and Miguel Almirón as the only players to accomplish this feat. He is the lone player in MLS this season to earn the honor three separate times. Mukhtar's six Player of the Week awards since the start of 2020 are the most in MLS. Additionally, his six wins are tied for the third-most among active MLS players, behind Vela (eight) and Atlanta United FC's Josef Martínez (seven).

Earlier today it was announced that Mukhtar was named the MLS Player of the Month for the month of August after his sensational seven goal and five assist performance. Mukhtar became the fourth player in league history to reach that total in a calendar month and his seven goals in August were the most of any player. Mukhtar has the distinct honor of becoming the first German player to win MLS Player of the Month.

With 21 goals, the current MLS Golden Boot leader has been the focal point of a Nashville SC squad that has won a club record four consecutive matches and is one victory shy of setting the most wins in a season with 13. His 32 goal contributions this season have made him the only player in MLS to have double-digit goals and assists this season.

Since the beginning of the 2021 season, Mukhtar has recorded 37 goals, the most of any player in MLS. He has recorded 60 goal contributions in that span, which is 19 more than the next closest player (Carles Gil, 41). Mukhtar has now been involved in over half of Nashville SC's regular season goals in club history (68 of 127) and is the all-time club leader in goals (41) and assists (27).

The MVP frontrunner will look to keep the goals coming as the Boys in Gold host the LA Galaxy at 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Sept. 10 at GEODIS Park. A limited number of tickets remain available at www.NashvilleSC.com/Tickets.

The MLS Player of the Week, presented by Continental Tire, is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
