Name the Team Contest Launched

Hartford, CT- The city of Hartford is set to begin a new chapter of professional baseball in April of 2016, and the team needs a name. All fans are invited to join our "Name The Team Contest" which will begin Tuesday, February 17 th on the newly created website www.hartfordplaysball2016.com . The contest will officially kick off at the groundbreaking ceremony (1:30 PM) for the new Hartford Ballpark at the intersection of Main Street and Trumbull Street. All media is welcome to cover the event. Fans are encouraged to suggest a name (which must include "Hartford"), along with a brief explanation of their entry. The fan whose submission leads to the team's new name will receive the Ultimate VIP Baseball Package (Two Lifetime Season Tickets, Team Jacket & Cap, photo in the Game Program). Four runners up will receive a pair of season tickets for the inaugural season.

"This is an exciting time with our franchise moving to Hartford, and we are asking the community to play an integral role in choosing our team's name. Hartford has a rich history of sports, and we look forward to continuing this tradition with affordable family entertainment in the Capital City," Team Owner Josh Solomon said.

The top 10 names, as chosen by the Selection Committee, will be listed on the website (hartfordplaysball2016.com) for fan voting, March 4-11. On Wednesday, March 11 th the Final Five names will be appear on the website along with the corresponding contestants who submitted the names. The winning name will be unveiled at a press conference on Wednesday, March 18 th . All five finalists will be invited to the team name press conference. (If more than one fan submits the winning name, one of those fans will be chosen at random.)

For the first time in more than 60 years, professional baseball will be played in Hartford. The spectacular new venue will anchor the redevelopment of Downtown North, and will sit between two major highways, I-84 and I-91. The new ballpark is set to open in April of 2016 for the start of the Minor League Baseball season.
