November 18, 2004 - North American Hockey League (NAHL) News Release

BISHOP'S SHUTOUT HIGHLIGHTS SELECTION AS SHER-WOOD NAHL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Few goaltenders in the NAHL this season have been as consistently good as the Texas Tornado's Ben Bishop, the Week 8 selection as Sher-wood NAHL Defensive Player of the Week. Nearly each week, his play has merited consideration as the league's top defensive player. This week, the St. Louis, Missouri, native stopped 45 of 47 shots on the road and earned his first Junior A shutout, a 3-0 shutout of Central Texas. He also defeated the hard-charging Texarkana Bandits 4-2, turning aside all 15 shots in the final period to preserve the win. Bishop leads the league in goals against average and wins and is second in save percentage and games played.

SIX POINT WEEKEND EARNS SARCONE SHER-WOOD NAHL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

It wasn't a great week for the Wildcats in the standings, but they can take some solace in the play of their left winger Brent Sarcone, who has been selected Sher-wood NAHL Offensive Player of the Week for Week 8 of the season. Sarcone set up a second period ‘Cats goal that brought them within one of the Jr. Blues on Friday night, then -- after Springfield had scored again, scored himself and set up another to tie the game and send it to overtime, before the Jr. Blues scored the winner. The next night, the Franklin, Michigan native again set up a goal to make the score 3-2, bringing Wichita Falls within one of Texarkana. Then he set up the goal that tied the score 4-4 and, in the last minute while killing a penalty, set up a shorthanded goal to again draw the ‘Cats to within one of the Bandits, which was how things ended. In addition to Sarcone's fine playmaking, he also finished the weekend at plus-one.
