Milwaukee Mustangs News Release

Milwaukee - Thrust into the starting lineup due to injuries, speedy wide receiver Dwayne Eley, Jr. was presented with an opportunity to make an impact. And that is just what he did on Saturday night, as he caught 9 passes for 127 yards, and 4 touchdowns in the Milwaukee Mustangs' 54-34 victory over the Kansas City Command (4-9) in front of a crowd of 5,249.

"We took advantage of a matchup," said Eley, Jr. "[Quarterback R.J. Archer] and our o-line did an amazing job."

The Mustangs (4-8) got the ball rolling midway through the first quarter with a 17-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Archer to Eley, Jr. The Command answered back with a score of their own when Steven Savoy rushed for a 4-yard TD. Archer would then give Milwaukee a 21-14 lead to end the quarter when he hooked up with Eley, Jr. from 11 yards out.

But the Command battled their way back in the second quarter behind Savoy, who added two more goal line rushing touchdowns to give the Command a 21-14 lead before the Mustangs tied the game on a Mykel Benson 8-yard screen pass. An interception by Antonio Malone gave Milwaukee a chance to take a lead into halftime, but the opportunity fell short as the Command made a goal line stop to leave the game deadlocked at 21 to end the half.

Milwaukee opened the second half in commanding fashion, generating a turnover on downs before Archer connected with Eley, Jr. for his third receiving touchdown and a 28-21 Mustangs lead. Milwaukee then extended the advantage after another Kansas City turnover on downs within the 5-yard line led to a Garrett Lindholm field goal. The Command cut the deficit to three with a 5-yard pass from quarterback J.J. Raterink to Bradly Chavez, but the Mustangs answered back with a 6 minute, 38 second drive that ended with an Archer quarterback sneak for a TD to take a 38-28 lead with 10:56 to play in the 4th quarter.

Eley, Jr. scored his fourth TD on a beautiful 30-yard pass from Archer that opened up a 45-28 Milwaukee advantage midway through the 4th quarter. Kansas City scored on a 4-yard Savoy receiving TD from Raterink, but Lindholm added another field goal and Malone returned an interception for a TD on the final play of the game to seal a 54-34 win.
