Pittsburgh Power News Release
TAMPA BAY- The Pittsburgh Power's winning streak was snapped Saturday night after losing 55-62 to the Tampa Bay Storm in front of 11,756 at St. Pete Times Forum. This ended a four game streak for the Power, who recently found themselves at the top of the American East.
After a huge interception by Carlos Campbell, the Power started the scoring off with a 20yd pass from Bernard Morris to Mike Washington. Just two plays later, Brain Zbydniewski completed a 27yd pass to Huey Whittaker to tie the game at 7 all. They would continue to trade scores throughout the quarter, highlighted by Jerome Mathis scoring on a kickoff return for the first time this season. Mathis finished the game with 195 yds and four touchdowns. Tampa was able to take the lead for the first time early in the second on a 27yd pass from Zbydniewski to Amarri Jackson. The Power were able to get back on top to end the half, 35-34.
Rapid scoring continued in the second half, but the score started to open up after both teams missed extra points. Tampa took the lead early on an 11 yd pass to Whittaker, who ended with three touchdowns on the night. Pittsburgh bounced back to take the lead again when Morris completed a 46 yd touchdown pass to Mathis. The Storm would ultimately get the momentum, though, and a sack by Jermaine Smith was the final blow before Tampa ran away with the game. Tampa would go on to win the game 55-62.
Pittsburgh travels to Utah next week to take on the Blaze. They return home on June 25th to face division rival, Milwaukee Mustangs.
