
Mustangs Train Keeps Rolling

Southeast Texas Mavericks News Release
The #1 ranked Southeast Texas Mustangs (20-1) kept their train rolling on Sunday afternoon at the Ford Arena in Beaumont, TX as they defeated the Houston Takers 141-89 to win their 19th straight game of the season.
The Mustangs wasted no time in the first quarter as Donald Harris scored 6 early points to help the Mustangs take an 8-2 lead. From there things just got worse for the Takers of Houston as Brian Burrell came off the Southeast Texas bench to score 11 first quarter points and help lead the Mustangs to 40 points in the opening period of play. Burrell's 3 pointer as the first quarter ended put the Mustangs up 40 to 18.
Burrell continued his hot hand in the 2nd quarter by again scoring 11 points to cap off a 22 point first half. Johnny Tyson added 8 second quarter points and the Mustangs ran away from the Takers to take a 73-38 lead into the locker-room at halftime.
The assault continued in the 3rd quarter as frontline mates Jamaal Davis and Alex Sanders scored 6 points a piece to help lead the Mustangs to a whopping 40 point lead.
The Mustangs never let up on this afternoon and everyone got involved in the action for the Mustangs as forward Donnie Jackson and point guard Boo Richardson each added six points each to the Mustangs effort. Jackson added 6 rebounds and Richardson dished out 10 assist as the Mustangs cruised to another victory.
Burrell finished with 25 points to lead the Mustangs in scoring. ABA Rookie of the Year candidate Currye Todd got back on track with 22 points while hitting 4 three pointers in the game. Veteran center Tyson scored a season high 16 points, while pulling down 7 rebounds, and blocking 4 shots. Rookie Lamar Sanders also followed up with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Larry Posey led Houston with 27 points and Jonathon Patton followed up with 24 points.
The Southeast Texas Mustangs will host the #5 ranked Beijing Aoshen Olympian on Tuesday night at the Ford Arena in Beaumont, TX. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM. This will be one of the premiere games of the season as the two prime contenders for the ABA Championship will meet for the first time ever.
