Mustangs Sign All-American Wide Receiver Jenkins

MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Mustangs announce the assignment of wide receiver Jared Jenkins (6'3, 225, UW- Stevens Point) for the 2012 season.
Jenkins most recently spent time with the Detroit Lions and the St. Louis Rams of the NFL. He was signed by both teams as an undrafted free agent and attended NFL camp for the Rams in 2011. He has been working out and staying ready for the next chapter in his football career, Arena Football.
"There is always something special about playing for the team that is in your hometown," said Jenkins. "I am really excited to be playing for the Mustangs this coming season and look forward to playing for my local family and friends."
Prior to his time in the NFL, Jenkins played for UW- Stevens Point. Not only a wide receiver, he spent three seasons as a guard/forward on the school's basketball team, and handled the team's punting duties his last two seasons, averaging 43.2 yards on 68 punts, with a long of 74 yards.
According to UW-Stevens Point, Jenkins was a two-time All-American punter as well as the school's leading wide receiver during his career. He finished his career second on the school's all-time list with 273 catches and 34 touchdowns. He had 45 rushing attempts for 230 yards and two touchdowns, and completed 2-of-3 pass attempts for 27 yards during his four-year career.
Among several other awards, Jenkins has been selected first-team All-WIAC wide receiver and named WIAC offensive and special teams player of the week a number of times.
Jenkins' high school career at Milwaukee Rufus King included City Conference championships in football and basketball. He was an all-conference wide receiver, defensive back and punter in football, and an all-area, all-conference, and all-state pick in basketball.
