Mustangs Recap Record Setting Year
Martinsville, Va. - The Martinsville Mustangs first season under Team Cole & Associates flew by, and the organization is proud to announce they set numerous attendance records, set in motion by the tremendous support they received in the community.
Even with an unusually rainy summer, the Mustangs averaged 1,630 fans for their 25 home games in league play, surpassing last year's total of 1,470 per game. For the year, the Mustangs brought 43,239 fans into Hooker Field, including exhibition games. That is the largest single season total in the Mustangs history, and it represents an overall jump of more than 6,400 fans from last season. For the 2013 season, the Mustangs were one of only five teams in the 14 team Coastal Plain League that saw an increase in attendance from last season, and they were the only team with a city population under 49,000 to do so.
"It was very humbling to see the kind of support we received from this community," said Mustangs General Manager Tyler Parsons. "We didn't really know what to expect coming into our first season, but I think you can safely say based on our first season that there is a lot of potential with the Mustangs. We couldn't do all the things we do at Hooker Field without everyone behind us, and we are truly thankful for the support we received."
Highlights from the season include three amazing fireworks shows, Strike Out Cancer Night, Salute to Troops Night, Grow Your Own Furniture Night and BB&T Dollar Mondays with $1 tickets, $1 hot dogs, $1 chips, $1 candy and $1 beer. And the season finale dubbed the Great Community Give-Back Game allowed all fans to get into the game for free with the first 1,000 fans receiving a free hot dog, chips and soda, all made possible by Gildan, River Community Bank, Subway and Martinsville Smiles.
On the field, the Mustangs had an incredible second half that had the team in the playoff hunt until the final day of the regular season. They would win 12 of their final 16 games to finish with a record of 22-31, failing to qualify for the CPL Playoffs by just =C21/2 game to the Gastonia Grizzlies. Starting third baseman Keelin Rasch (Louisiana-Monroe) would finish third in the league in hits with 60, and he also finished eighth in batting average with a .316 clip and second in doubles with 16.
Looking ahead, the future looks bright for the Martinsville Mustangs as Team Cole & Associates has officially signed on the manage the organization for a second straight year.

With a whole year to prepare for the 2014 season, we plan to add great improvements to Hooker Field and even more never before seen promotions, to add to the fan experience with the Mustangs!"

The Mustangs are a member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 57 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
