Southeast Texas Mavericks News Release

The #1 ranked Southeast Texas Mustangs (19-1) won their 18th straight game on Wednesday night against the #10 ranked Texas Fuel 110-93.

The Mustangs have controlled many first quarters all season long, but a tough and hardnosed in the Texas Fuel matched the Mustangs on Wednesday night. The Mustangs only led 27-20 at the end of the first period of play.

The Southeast Texas Mustangs took total control of this game in the 2nd period as they outscored the Fuel 35-16 to blow the game completely open. Tim Pledger and Alex Sanders led the way for the Mustangs as they completely controlled the period. The Mustangs deep bench also contributed and the Fuel had no answer for the Mustangs depth. Southeast Texas led at the half 62-36.

The 3rd quarter was much of the same as the Mustangs had their way with the Fuel. Donald Harris, Jamaal Davis, and DeRon Rutledge made sure the Mustangs kept their lead heading into the final period of play.

In the 4th quarter Kenny Wilson found his touch and pushed the Fuel into a run that cut the Mustangs lead to 16 points with just over six minutes to play. But Pledger and Rutledge made sure the Mustangs kept control of the game by hitting crucial baskets each time the Fuel cut into the lead. Southeast Texas finished strong and clinched their 18th straight win.

Rutledge led the Mustangs with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Pledger followed up with 20 points and 11 assist. Sanders continued his outstanding play with 18 points and 7 rebounds.

The Mustangs once again had balanced scoring, placing six players in double figures. Davis finished with 11 points. Harris and Anthony Lumpkin chipped in 10 points each respectively.

Wilson led the Fuel with 23 points. Keith Simpson and Isaiah Allen followed up with 13 and 12 points.

The Mustangs will continue their longest home stand of the season this Sunday at Ford Arena as they will host the Houston Takers. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
