Southeast Texas Mavericks News Release
When veteran professional basketball Coach Steve Tucker stepped to the podium it became official the Southeast Texas Mustangs had entered the Ford Park Arena in Beaumont, TX and had made it their home.
Tucker has built many franchises and programs over his long coaching career. He knows the challenges that will face his new franchise and he's excited about his new home at Ford Arena. "This is a state of the art arena and it will be one of the premiere arenas to play professional basketball in with the ABA and in all of pro basketball on this level! We are most excited about our new home at Ford Park in Beaumont, TX."
In front of a packed VIP Room within Ford Arena Mustangs owner Dr. Jordan Maswoswe, Mustangs Staff, and Coach Tucker, they were introduced by Ford Park General Manager John Hughes to the crowd of media, arena staff, and fans. Dr. Maswoswe is also very excited about the Mustangs home and about being in Southeast Texas, "We are very excited about coming to Beaumont, TX and to the Golden Triangle area! We have a great place to play our games in! We are also in an outstanding basketball area within the state of Texas where basketball is very popular. We will give the basketball fans in all of Southeast Texas a professional basketball franchise they can be very proud of in the future."
The SETX Mustangs will be looked upon as one of the favorites to contend for the 2008-09 ABA Championship! Coach T's teams have always been one of the top teams in the American Basketball Association in his years of coaching in the ABA. Tucker's '04-05 Texas Tycoons and '06-07 Jacksonville Jam were both top teams in the ABA National Power Ranking. The Tycoons finished 22-10 in its first season of competition and the Jacksonville Jam went 31-9 and won the Southeast Division of the ABA in its inaugural season. Tucker was also honored as an ABA All-Star Coach during both of his seasons of coaching in the ABA. With that said, the Mustangs will be looked upon as a true and legitimate contender for the upcoming season's ABA Championship!
The Mustangs will play a 30 game regular season tipping off the end of November and playing through to the first of March. The ABA Playoffs will begin the second week of March. The Playoffs in the ABA are a single elimination playoff format (like the NCAA Tournament). The ABA Final Four will be held in Nashville, TN the third weekend of March.
Mustangs Season Tickets will go on sale in September. For more information on tickets, sponsorship packages, tryout camps, camps/clinics, appearances, or any further information regarding the SETX Mustangs call #409/951-5500.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
