MILWAUKEE (February 20, 2012) - The Milwaukee Mustangs are excited to announce Bill Johnson as the play-by-play announcer for the 2012 Mustangs' season.
"The Mustangs' fans have always been very passionate. I'm honored to be able to bring them the games on 540 ESPN and very happy to be a part of he Mustangs' organization," said Johnson.
Johnson has worked in the Milwaukee sports media for nearly two decades. This will be his first season as the Milwaukee Mustangs play-by-play announcer, but he is no stranger to the market.
He began his career in sports broadcasting as a host at WAUK Sportsradio 1510 in 1995, has done play-by-play for high school football in southeastern Wisconsin since 1997 and has been the voice of the WIAA State Football Championships in Madison on FM 100.5 ESPN Madison for the past six years.
Johnson has been the play-by-play voice of UW-Milwaukee Panthers men's basketball since 1999. In this time, highlights have included three trips to the NCAA Tournament, a Sweet Sixteen run in 2005 and two trips to the NIT.
His duties with 540 ESPN, the Mustangs flagship station, include morning updates during the Mike and Mike Show, Green and Gold Today, and a daily one-hour Packers show with Packers beat writer Jason Wilde.
"We are extremely appreciative to have Bill join us for the 2012 season, beginning with the Mustangs home opener on March 29," said director of media and public relations, Nicole LeBlanc. "He is well-known in the community and brings experience and talent to the Mustangs play-by-play this season."
