Musketeers to Sponsor Veterans on Future Midwest Honor Flight
SIOUX CITY, IA: The Sioux City Musketeers announced today that $54,900 was raised during their annual Military Appreciation Night and donated to the Midwest Honor Flight organization to sponsor 72 World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War veterans for an all-expenses-paid flight to visit the nation's capital. The sponsored flight will allow veterans and guardians to fly to Washington, D.C. to visit memorials dedicated to honoring their service and sacrifice.
"We are grateful to have the Sioux City Musketeers sponsor a flight for our veterans who are so deserving of this once-in-a-lifetime experience," said Aaron Van Beek, Volunteer President and Director of Midwest Honor Flight. "This is a way to show our appreciation and say thank you to those who served, and we are grateful to the Musketeers and their fans for showing their support and gratitude for military veterans in such a generous way."
This will sponsor the ninth-ever flight for the Midwest Honor Flight organization, named "Sioux City Musketeers Mission 9," for veterans located throughout northwest Iowa, South Dakota, and southwest Minnesota. Veterans on the flight will together experience the power and solidarity of Arlington National Cemetery, the World War II Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
The Musketeers raised the $54,900 donation to sponsor the Honor Flight during their 2020-2021 Military Appreciation Night with the support of the community during the jersey auction following the game. Midwest Honor Flight anticipates this flight taking place in the spring of 2022.
Rich Zaber, President of the Sioux City Musketeers, said, "The auction and support was absolutely amazing! We have sponsored Midwest Honor Flight because of what they do, what they stand for, and especially what they have done for our veterans. For those that came out to the game and to those that bought a jersey, I thank you for the overwhelming support you provided that night for our Sioux City Musketeers, Midwest Honor Flight, and most importantly, our veterans."
