Muren Garners Player of the Week Nod

DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks OF Drew Muren (pictured) has been named this week's Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending August 16.

Muren was 14-for-30 (.467) this week for the RedHawks, collecting five doubles, a home run and five RBI. He began his week on Monday with a 2-for-5 game that included a double in a 5-3 road win over the Kansas City T-Bones. A night later, Fargo-Moorhead opened a home series with the Gary SouthShore RailCats. Muren was 3-for-5 on the game, doubling twice, driving in a run and scoring two in a narrow 5-4 win. The RedHawks won the series with a 6-3 triumph Wednesday, as Muren was 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and a run scored. The RedHawks took an 8-7 loss to Gary on Thursday, and Muren was 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored. The weekend saw the RedHawks head to Winnipeg for a series with the Goldeyes. Muren had his best game of the week on Friday night, a 4-for-6 performance in which he scored two runs. On Saturday, the Las Vegas, Nev. resident went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI in a 5-3 win, and closed out his week by going 1-for-4 in an 8-1 loss Sunday.

Muren is hitting .262 in his first season with the RedHawks. He has 16 doubles, two triples and four home runs with 28 RBI on the year. This is Muren's second season in the American Association. He played with both the Gary SouthShore RailCats and the Sioux Falls Canaries in 2014, hitting a combined .282 with 21 doubles, four triples, eight home runs and 39 RBI. Before his time in independent ball, Muren spent three seasons in the Houston Astros system. He reached as high as the Class AA Corpus Christi Hooks, where he played 33 games in 2012 and 93 in 2013. Muren's highest average came in 2012, when he hit .291 over 102 games.
