Muller Retires

The Rockford RiverHawks on Monday announced the retirement of the relief pitcher, who is among the team's all-time leaders in saves. Rockford's only professional baseball team reacquired Muller, a former Chicago Cubs farmhand, last month for the stretch.
Muller opened the 2010 season in the independent Atlantic League with Lancaster and also pitched for that circuit's York and Camden clubs. Muller was traded twice, then was released by Camden on Aug. 4. He was a composite 2-2 with a 4.29 ERA and seven saves in the Atlantic League. The RiverHawks re-signed Muller Aug. 10 as a setup man. He was 0-1 with no saves and a 10.02 ERA in 11 Northern League appearances.
Muller was a Frontier League All-Star closer for the 2009 RiverHawks. He was 2-3 with a 2.60 ERA and 12 saves when an infection ended his year in July.
Muller is fifth on the team's career save list and is tied with Mike Marksbury for fifth on the single-season list.
Muller spent his first two years of professional baseball, 2007-08, with the Cubs organization.
