Published on March 27, 2008 under Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

The CHL conducted its final Coaches Poll of the season and for the fifth consecutive poll, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs have been voted the top team. For the second consecutive season, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs (44-14-6) won the CHL Governors' Cup (regular season champs) and head into the post-season as the Northern Conference's number one seed. The Mudbugs ended up seven points better than the second best team in the league, the Laredo Bucks, and reached the 94-point plateau for the second straight season. The big movers in the recent poll were the Arizona Sundogs and the Youngstown SteelHounds who both moved up three positions. The Rocky Mountain Rage struggled in the second half of the season and eventually missed the playoffs, they dropped five spots in the final poll. Also moving up was Mississippi and New Mexico while Colorado and Texas both dropped. Odessa joins Bossier-Shreveport and Laredo as the only teams that did not move at all. The Austin Ice Bats received 13 points in the voting but did not crack the top 10 despite making the playoffs.

The Mudbugs received 15 of the 17 possible first place votes with Laredo receiving the other two first place votes (teams cannot vote for themselves). The lead for the Mudbugs over the second ranked team fell from 27 points to 23 points. Youngstown's three-game sweep over Colorado coupled with winning two of three from Laredo since the last poll saw the Hounds move up 26 points.

Balloting for the CHL Coaches Poll is done by the 17 CHL Head Coaches. The CHL Top 10 Coaches Poll is released at the beginning and the middle of each month throughout the season. Each first place vote receives 10 points, second place earns nine points, etc.
