Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
LOVELAND, CO - Aaron Schneekloth scored the game-winning goal with just 32 seconds remaining to lead to Colorado Eagles to a 4-3 win over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in Game 2 of the Northern Conference Semifinals. The Mudbugs held a 3-1 lead mid-way through the contest before Colorado came back to eventually win behind the strength of three powerplay goals. The Eagles now lead the best-of-seven series two games to none.
The 'Bugs scored three straight times early in the second period to take the two-goal lead, getting two tallies from Joe Ori and another from Travis Clayton to go up 3-1 before the Eagles started their comeback. Jon Horrell made 29 saves in his second straight start.
The Mudbugs played a solid first period and outshot the Eagles 10-4, but trailed 1-0 after one. Riley Nelson's powerplay goal came at 14:44, but the 'Bugs had the overall edge in the period.
The 'Bugs roared into the second period, scoring three times to take the lead. Joe Ori fired home a loose puck after Brett Smith had created a turnover in the Eagles' zone to tie the game at 2:09. Bossier-Shreveport took the lead a short time later when Colorado coughed up the puck deep in their zone and it came to Ori, who made a nice move to beat Andrew Penner and put the 'Bugs on top 2-1. Only 1:04 after that, Travis Clayton fought through a check and got the puck deep in the Colorado zone before shooting it toward the net from a sharp angle. The shot bounced off the shin pad of Riley Nelson and past Penner to put the Mudbugs on top by a pair. The Eagles trimmed the lead to 3-2 late in the second period when Ed McGrane's long shot found its way into the top corner for a powerplay goal.
Colorado then tied it up 4:30 into the third period when Ryan Tobler's slapshot from the high slot beat Horrell into the five-hole to make it 3-3. The game stayed that way through most of the period, with the clubs trading chances until the Eagles were given a powerplay with just over two minutes left in the game. Just after the penalty to Travis Clayton had expired, Aaron Schneekloth tipped in a long shot by Kevin Ulanski to put Colorado on top 4-3 with only 32 seconds left. Penner stopped one more late chance by the Mudbugs to help the Eagles close out the win.
Bossier-Shreveport finished 0 for 3 on the powerplay, while Colorado was 3 for 7. Penner made 34 saves to get his second straight win.
