Mudbugs Announce Affiliation with AHL's Rochester Americans

BOSSIER CITY, LA -- The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs announced, at a press conference today, that they have begun an affiliation with the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League. The deal will give players on the Mudbugs' roster the opportunity to be called up to the AHL.
"This is such a great opportunity for a lot of our players who definitely deserve this chance," said Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Scott Muscutt. "I would just like to thank the Americans for their cooperation and the confidence that they have displayed. (Rochester General Manager) Jody Gage has been a pleasure to deal with throughout this whole process and we feel it will be beneficial for both organizations."
Under the agreement, any player on the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs' roster can be called up to the Americans during the 2002-03 season. Rochester will also send players to the Mudbugs for development.
Two Mudbugs are currently participating in training camp with the Rochester Americans. Goaltender Ken Carroll and forward Dan Wildfong remain in Rochester and are seeking a chance to play in the American Hockey League this season. The AHL is the primary developmental league for the National Hockey League. Rochester's NHL affiliate is the Buffalo Sabres.
Through the Mudbugs' negotiations with the Americans, they have also been able to obtain 6'2, 200-pound defenseman Luc Theoret. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native played in 25 games with Rochester last season and also played with the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays and the UHL's Adirondack IceHawks. This season will be Theoret's fourth in professional hockey.
"Luc will be a great addition to our blue line," said Muscutt. "He definitely brings size and experience to our defense so having him on our team is a big plus."
